About this event

Ahoy Liberty Sailors!

Time to make plans for our early season "Spring Fling" weekend on the Chesapeake - May 11-12.

For those of you unfamiliar with the format, we charter some boats from Haven Charters (410-639-7140) in Rock Hall, MD and spend the  weekend around and about the upper Chesapeake. Where we go and where we stay is all determined by the crew and the weather, and usually decided at a Skipper's meeting Friday evening or Saturday morning. Destinations could be slips at St. Michael's, Annapolis, Baltimore or elsewhere... or anchoring out off the Wye, West, South, Magothy, or Corsica Rivers. Family and friends are welcome, as well as former club members.

The general plan is to leave the marina in Rock Hall early Saturday morning and return mid-afternoon Sunday (or Monday). The boats are available for Friday sleepover, so many folks meet up for dinner Friday evening.  Its a fun weekend and a great chance to get experience with chartering larger (35-45 ft) cruising yachts and explore the beautiful Chesapeake Bay.

The boats need to be booked ASAP to ensure availability.  Most have 2-3 double berths and can accommodate one or two additional people in the salon. The cost to charter the boat is usually around $5-550 per person, which includes our Liberty Sailing Club discount, with final price determined by the specific boat and number of crew.  Provisions, slip-fees, fuel and pump out are additional and are shared among the skipper/crew.

Each boat will require:
 - a qualified skipper, with cruising experience/training to reserve the boat

 - a crew, some of which should have cruising experience on larger boats
 - we will do our best to accommodate everyone on a first-come/first-serve basis

Please register your interest as soon as possible so we can determine the number of boats needed and get them reserved with a deposit.  Captains will need to be approved by Haven Charters.  Note that the skipper will be directly responsible for payment to the charter company and collecting the per-person fees from their crew.

Some clarifications:
 - This event is not sponsored by Liberty Sailing club - each captain/crew is responsible for all of their expenses
 - These are privately-owned boats and carry damage insurance with a $3000 (typical) deductible; any damage costs will be shared among the captain/crew
 - In case of running aground, the captain/crew is responsible for any towing fees, but always contact the charter company first!
